At Bealings School, we believe that every child is unique and brings their own strengths, interests and perspectives to our community. Guided by our values of Awe, Balance and Creativity, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child feels valued, supported and able to flourish.
We recognise that some children may need additional support at different points in their school journey. Through strong relationships, high-quality teaching and close partnership with families, we work to ensure that all children can access rich and meaningful learning experiences, develop confidence and independence, and experience a strong sense of belonging.
We follow the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and are committed to identifying and responding to children's needs as early as possible. Our approach is child-centred and focuses on understanding each child's strengths, aspirations and individual needs.
A child or young person has Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) if they have a learning difficulty or disability which requires special educational provision that is additional to, or different from, that normally available to children of the same age.
The SEND Code of Practice identifies four broad areas of need:
Communication and Interaction - Including speech, language and communication needs, and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
Cognition and Learning - Including specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and difficulties with memory, processing or understanding.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health - Including difficulties with emotional regulation, anxiety, attention and concentration.
Sensory and/or Physical Needs - Including hearing impairment, visual impairment, physical disabilities and medical needs.
At Bealings School, we support children with a wide range of needs and work closely with families and external professionals to ensure that appropriate support is in place.
At Bealings School, all teachers are teachers of children with SEND. High-quality teaching, adapted to meet individual needs, forms the foundation of our provision.
Support may include:
Adapted teaching and learning activities
Additional classroom support
Small group interventions
Individual support where appropriate
Personalised targets and support plans
Emotional well-being support
Advice from specialist services and external professionals
We use a graduated approach of Assess, Plan, Do, Review to ensure that support is carefully planned, monitored and evaluated.
If you have concerns about your child's learning, development, well-being or progress, we encourage you to speak to us as soon as possible.
Your first point of contact should be your child's class teacher, who knows your child well and can discuss any concerns with you. Together, you can explore strategies and support that may help your child within the classroom.
If further support is needed, the class teacher may consult with or arrange a meeting involving our SENCo. Through discussion with you, your child and school staff, we can identify appropriate next steps and determine whether additional support may be beneficial.
We believe that parents and carers are key partners in their child's education and well-being. By working together, we can ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive.

At Bealings School, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child feels valued, supported and able to flourish.
We follow the admissions arrangements set by Suffolk County Council and welcome applications from families of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Admission to the school is not determined by a child's SEND.
To help ensure a successful start, we encourage parents and carers of children with additional needs to contact the school before admission. This enables us to work in partnership with families, previous settings and other professionals to understand individual needs and plan appropriate support.
We are committed to making reasonable adjustments so that all pupils can access the curriculum, school environment and wider opportunities available at Bealings. Further information can be found in our Accessibility Plan.
Families may also find the following services helpful:
A free, confidential and impartial service offering information, advice and support to children, young people and families in relation to SEND.
The Suffolk Local Offer provides information about services, support, activities and opportunities available for children and young people with SEND and their families across Suffolk.
