Years 5 and 6

Spring Term 2012

Table Tennis

It was the 3rd of October when 16 people from years 4,5 and 6 went to Claydon to compete in the under 11′s table tennis competition. It was four teams of 4, against 2 other schools. We got to Claydon to see the two other school’s teams from the boys and girls who we were  up against to be best in Ipswich. The winners and runners up got to go to Stowupland to be best in Suffolk. It was the best of five games and we played two games each.We all won at least one game and we all had fun.                                  An  hour and a half later, result time. Out of breath and glad for all the team, the 16 from Bealings sat in a group. The clipboard was out, and the boys team A came……….SECOND!! Sadly the boys team B did not make it but they were great. And now the girls………….? Girls team B did not make it, but girls team A along with another school BOTH got 18 points,so they went home not knowing what was going to happen next…….

ONE WEEK LATER…..

The girls team A came in after play one day, to find that we had got an e- mail that said we came….SECOND!! We were all so happy, we could not wait for November the 23rd, so if you want to find out what happened… keep reading!

COUNTY FINALS TIME                                                                                                                   On the 23rd of November, the cars turned up bringing the remaining 8 children coming to compete, 4 girls, 4 boys and a teacher. We entered the hall and we got VERY nervous. But we were told we were being moved to the small hall again. But when we entered again we got nervous because the hall was full of tall people! We were then told it was only the under 19′s practicing. Bats at the ready, we started. It was the same rules as last time but there were 3 games to play. We started with playing Morland, last years winners and best in Ipswich. It was hard and we did well. All the girls and all the boys won at least one set each.We played for nearly 2 hours before it was time for the results. We all stood there waiting as they counted up our points. Out came the certificates, for the winners and runners up. The girls and the boys both had the same position……….

Once again, I hope you enjoyed it!

  • Work continues on our class vegetable plots to provide food for our vegetable stalls. Last term we raised money for Seeds for Africa, as well as some money to buy new seeds and equipment for our garden. Many thanks to all those who shopped at our stall or brought in extra produce for us to sell.

Report on vegetable garden news by Abi – Year 6

Last year ( 2009 ) our class ( year 4,5 and 6 ) grew some fruit and veg like we do every year. This year was a bit different though, we decided to sell our food we had grown. We sold our food produce at Bealings School Harvest Festival, Friday the 23rd of October. In order to get together and sell our food we separated  off into different groups, and we sent out questionares to the parents, to see which fruit and veg they liked best and other questions. Each group did the questionares for one year group only. Ater we had got the results back we looked though them . The most popular foods were Potatoes, Carrots, Onions and Brocilli. With this information we put it into a graph in our groups. Further through the lessons we started to look at seeds we had and could use, then put the imformation into a spead sheet, with all the months in. Then we chose the vegtables we were going to to grow and wrote them in. Luckily for us earlier that year our school had brought a polly  tunnel to go in our school field. So we could grow food that needs more heat. After that we decied to give 71% of the money to a company that helps people in Africa to have more seeds so they can have new things that we get and they normally  can’t , called Seeds for Africa. Eventally we raised £66.84 and gave £47.46 to Seeds for Africa. Our last total score was £29.65. That money will help us next year so we can buy some more seeds and have another store and help Seeds for Africa again.

  • This term we are cooking recipes that use vegetables that we will later be growing in the vegetable plots. First of all – pizza! Made with homemade dough and sauce.
  • March 2010 – we are now making scones! in the summer they can be eaten with our home grown strawberries and raspberries.
  • Holly says, “These scones are lovely with strawberry jam”!
  • Ben add’s “The scones take your breath away, you dont want to go!
  • Gregor adds”Probaly the best scones i’ve ever had i would love to make some more”
  • And a big thank you to Angela!
  • On March 22nd, our class will be taking part in a SingUp morning with other small schools in the Federation. In our class, you can play violin, guitar, flute or clarinet.

Report on music news by Patrick, Y6

Our class is a highly experienced class in music.

We have three music teachers called Mr Mike Hynes (guitar), Mr Alan Pitt (clarinet) and Miss Julia Walshaw (violin).

We divide our guitar groups in to two groups : year 5 and year 6. Most of the year fives are new to guitar and have been learning for four months and are doing very well. The year sixes have been playing for on and a half years.

On the seventeenth of December the guitarists, clarinetists and the violinists did a concert. The guitarists played Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, the clarinetists played Jingle Bells and me and my friend Gabriel played a tune called Keep Trucking and the violinists played We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

Well done to our Netball and football teams!

The footballers won the Federation Football tournament and our Netballers won both the Federation and Pyramid tournaments!

Recently, we have had a new group room built at the front of our school which is where Years 5 and 6 have their instrumental music tuition.

Later on this year, year 5&6 will be performing at the Wolsey Theatre! Michael Platt will be working with us on the dance.
